It allows you to decide how images should be opened when right clicked on in the icon view: you can o pen a preview of the image, or open in the image editor. Set how images are displayed in preview mode and on the light table (a way of viewing images from your image directory, will be explained more later): You can load reduced version of image or you can just Load the image. You can decide how you want to open Raw images in the editor, you can either open them directly, with auto adjustments, or you can use the Raw import tool to adjust the corrections manually. There other things you can do and I will go into more detail about them individually now. In this start-up configuration you can choose where to keep your images and access them from. Once you have installed digiKam and you open it up for the first time you are brought to this start-up configuration. A reasonable question that you might be thinking is what is digiKam? Note that I am using digiKam on Windows, so your experience might be different if you are using Linux, or Mac OS X.
